A useful compendium detailing the leading lights of the early 20th century artistic phenomenon in Shanghai of calendar posters - a fusion of Chinese and Western styles and the old and new in Chinese culture. Not least of interest for the depiction of the then-modern Chinese westernized woman. The posters were notable not least in that many artists 'signed' the posters. A comprehensive selection of artists are listed, each with a biography and examples of their work. A useful reference on a short-lived art form. Illustrated throughout in colour. Text in Chinese.
