GZMCX1 Ganzhou Municipal Museum ed: CIYUN XIANGGUANG: GANZHOU CIYUN SI TA FAXIAN BEISONG YIWU. (Northern Song Relics Discovered at the Pagoda of Ciyun Temple in Ganzhou). 慈雲祥光贛州慈雲寺塔發現北宋遺物. Beijing, 2019. 236 pp. Full page colour plates throughout. 36x27 cm. Cloth. GBP 250.00 Highly interesting record of the finds found in the underground crypt of the pagoda of Ciyun Temple located in the town of Ganzhou in the south of Jiangxi province in China. The crypt was sealed during the Northern Song dynasty. This relatively small cache of objects includes exceptionally rare Northern Song colour paintings on paper, wooden statuary and a sutra or two. The paintings are (unsurprisingly) Buddhist in nature but some also show people, presumably donors to the building of the pagoda. All illustrated in full page colour and much close-up detail shown. Text in Chinese, Subjects: Buddhist Art Painting Item 291 in List 214. URL for this record: hanshan.com/?g/GZMCX1.HTM Record produced by Hanshan Tang Books, www.hanshan.com. |
