Rare Dianshizhai lithographic edition of the Ming classic of magic, mystery and romance with tales of young scholars, monks, fox spirits, ghosts and many more strange and wonderful characters - a perennial Chinese favourite of popular fiction. Numerous fullpage detailed lithographic illustrations. In fine condition with the original cloth case (with wear) and all original labels. There is confusion over the date as the colophon gives both Guangxu 29 (i.e. 1896) and the cyclical date for 1903 (guimao). In Chinese.
