JI0SQ2 Ji Yun et al: QINDING SIKU QUANSHU ZONGMU (ZHENGLI BEN). (Complete Catalogue of the Siku Collection : Revised Edition). Beijing, 1997. 16, 41, 1-1703; 1704-2824, 564, 9, 2 pp. Bibliography, indexes. 2 vols. 28x21 cm. Cloth. GBP 95.00 An essential new edition of an extremely important reference work. This is the most extensive and useful bibliographic guide, including indications of contents, to the monumental collection of Chinese literature assembled under the Qianlong Emperor - 3,461 works, and a further 6,793 which were considered, but not selected, for inclusion in the actual 'Siku'. (It is officially attributed to the Qianlong emperor's 6th son, Yongrong.) Unlike earlier editions, this is based on the first (1789) publication of the work by the Wuyingdian (the 'Dianben') rather than the 1795 'Zheben'. However, all the early 'base' editions have been consulted for this revision, which also incorporates the corrections of the various 'tiyao' and has the benefit of many additional contemporary editors' notes, recording further editions of works unknown to or not noted by the bibliography's original editors. This edition is also unique for its use of simplified characters, although full-forms are used whenever there is the possibility of ambiguity. Teng & Biggerstaff, 18.
